Started the new job on Monday and... it's hard to say how I feel about it so far. Hard to say because I haven't actually done any work yet. There was some mixup and I didn't get a logon to the company computer system until around 1 PM today (Thursday). For those of you that don't know, I'm a technical writer, and what that means is, if I can't use the computer, I can't work. So I've been getting paid for sitting around for 3 1/2 days (actually got fed up and left early on Wednesday)... which is remarkably similar to my last job, only about 20 times more soul-crushing since I couldn't even surf the internet. Fortunately, I'm all set now... but I'm taking tomorrow off so Trelina and I can fly down to Orlando for a big bellydance show. So... if you're wondering how the new job's going, I'll have to tell you next week.
Two of my favorite bump n' grind songs ever: Tom Jones' "You Can Leave Your Hat On" and Prince's "Break It Down".
One good thing about the new job: the comic shop is on the way home from work. This week's purchases were Amazing Spider-Man (dear J. Michael Straczynski: Don't let the door hitcha where the good lord splitcha), Immortal Iron Fist (Sumo Thunder Stomp, bitches!), The Spirit (dull by Darwyn Cooke standards), and - because I obviously hadn't spent enough on new comics - I went back and bought the last two issues of Warren Ellis's Black Summer (I remain undecided about this one).
I've been listening and re-listening to Taylor Dayne's "Love Will Lead You Back" on Youtube whenever my fershlugginer connection speed lets me. You may think this is because I'm a big girl - and you may be right - but I refuse to take responsibility for it, as it's obviously Derrick Ferguson's fault.
Damn, though. That girl can sing.
Another good thing about the new job: I live so close that I can go home for lunch if I wanna. And the last three days have been so boring that I've been taking advantage of that, yessir.
A couple weeks ago, I put half a GB of extra RAM in my PC, which has been chugging along on a mere 256 MB for a couple years now. It really improved the machine's overall performance, but my connection seems to be protesting the extra speed by slowing down to a crawl. If I want the computer to do something that doesn't have anything to do with the Internet, it's noticeably faster, but Internet stuff is actually slower. I don't know if I've contracted a virus or what...
So yeah, going to Orlando for the weekend. Everybody have fun without me. And you folks residing in the Quad Cities, please don't get swept away by a flooding river. I remember how bad it used to get... though it seems like this crap used to happen later in the year when I was a wee one.
