Susquehanna State Park

We're back from our weekend camping trip. This is the first time we've camped for 2 nights (which I thought was great, but Rob felt rushed on Friday). There are definitely some campsites that are much better than others there, and fortunately even though we had a crappy one reserved we were able to switch to a better one. In the end we had a great campsite with a water pump at the base, and a path to the bathrooms (real running water and hot showers even!) So we got there around 7:30 or so on Friday night, set up camp, cooked some dinner, roasted some marshmallows for s'mores, and went to bed around 11pm.

Saturday morning we got up around 8am, Rob cooked some breakfast, and then we were off for some serious hiking. We're not in Michigan anymore - there are some serious hills to hike here in Maryland ;-). It was quite the work out. The trails were amazingly beautiful though. And the best part was that we had a family of deer (2 adults and a baby) that were literally like 10 feet away from us. The fawn caught Hayle's attention and it sprinted away into the woods (unfortunately I missed this, as I was behind Rob & Hayle on the trail at that point). But then we saw a doe dart up the path in front of us, and there was another literally like 10 feet away just staring at us. I sooooooo wanted to get a picture, but by the time I got my camera ready, they'd all scampered away. It was incredible to be that close to them though. We hiked back along the river and Hayle got to do a little swimming. The current was pretty swift though and she's not used to swimming with a current so we didn't let her stay out long or go too far. She wasn't complaining though - this water-dog is happy for any swimming opportunities she can get! We got back around lunch time and then we just crashed at the campsite for the afternoon. We'd originally thought we might go back out and hike some more in the afternoon, but that 6.5 mile hike in the morning kicked our butts. ;-)

All in all, we really liked this place and we look forward to going back there sometime.
