a story inspired but my inevitably evil nightmare.
it was just another regular day. you know, the usual concoction of school, work, and more work. when my dead beat "car," i guess you can call it, transported me home, i was surprised with pleasant news. my mom actually managed to get me a spot for the University of Arts and Fashion's getaway week. supposedly, you need to sign up a year in advance to steal a spotlight. and even booking a year in ahead could cost you lots of stress. they might as well advertise it as "book your spotlight 10 years in advanced, because you will get screwed, even if you do the one year early registration." i had to know how my mom got so lucky. i found out she knew a teacher at the university who said one girl was dropped from the program due to family problems. and since she was close friends with that teacher, we got the hook up.
happy days were here to come! i couldnt have been more anxious to arrive at the meet and greet party they threw every year. one week. thats how long i had to pack my entire life into 3 measely little suitcases. but did i think about that? the answer to that question is a "hell no" [with emphases on the hell] i did all my packing in one day. one week seemed like a century for me. it was finally d-day [whatever the heck that means]. being on the plane to u.a.f. seemed like a dream. i had to pinch myself a thousand times to ensure that my being on the way to this awesome getaway wasnt one of those dreams that leave you pissed off when you wake up wishing it was real. [get that?] after 5 excrutiating hours on the plane ride of hell [no use in going into details for that. lets just say its not fun sitting in between 2 "round" people for 5 hours] the plane touched ground. i couldnt have thanked God enough for that relief. but you know that saying "when one door closes, another one opens?" well the door to waiting for another 5 hours was opened to my "gratifying pleasure." after finding the last of my luggage, i headed off to the taxi station. amazingly, there was a taxi driver holding a sign with my name on it. my heart started to pump even harder. i was 10 minutes closer to my dream week. but of course when you want something really bad, time takes its time to move. 10 minutes seemed longer than the 5 hours on and off the plane combined.
i practically jumped out of the cab when we finally arrived at u.a.f. it was more than i imagined. the architecture of the buildings were astounding. as i was just about to get my curious cat mode switch on, i was greeted by the leader of the program. "hello catalina, how was your trip? i hope it wasnt too bad. my name is glenda star, i'm the leader of this week's program," she said in the i'm-so-perky-people-think-i'm-on-crack kind of voice. i responded, "oh it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be." of course i lied. i didnt want to dean any trouble on the crack head, i uh, mean nice lady. after a some what uncomfortable silence, she showed me to my room. I have to admit the room was rockin my socks. just when i was going to play 20 questions with the perky little puppy, she disappeared into thin air, later i find out she left me when i was busy admiring the room like a kid in a candy store. she was kind enough to leave an info sheet of f.a.q. the first activity of the day was "kiss and tell." my first day of the week of my dreams was off to a good start already. "meet at the lounge at 8pm PRONTO! dress to impress and express."
so there i was with another 5 hours to fancy myself up in the hottest way possible. but then again, when you need the 5 hours to spare, the 5 hours turns into 5 minutes when you're trying to "dress to impress and express." i threw on a mini skirt and the hottest shirt i could get my hands on. with the magic of pomade, my hair was a quick fix. 755pm. the next five minutes seemed like 5 seconds. music started blasting through the roof and there i went off running like a sprinter towards the lounge. people were already partying! now, this was my kind of university. and HOTXDAMN, you couldnt have asked for more hot waves. as i made my entrance, i slipped into the ladies room to make sure everything was in its place. hair, check. make-up, check. outfit, check. all was in order, and there i was to meet and greet. i didnt know the party would be thrown so early in the week. so there i am dancing my way to the beverage station when i bump into mr.perfect. stunned like a deer about to get run over, i just gazed into his eyes. ocean blue with a splash of emerald green. later i realize hes shaking my hand and asking my name. of course i stutter like a jack hammer, but he eventually figures it out. hes name was antonio lorenzo. it was a double sexy. "nice to have met you. do you care to dance?" he asked. i caught myself saying, "who wouldnt want to dance with the sexiness you encompass?" after turning bright red, i officially accept the offer with a shy, "why of course, i'd love to." right when we were going to boogie it on down, glenda greeted us once more with a welcome speech. it was a total snooze fest. but i survived, and so did the other 50 attendees. another hour passes by, and during that hour i start to fall more and more for antonio lorenzo. Glenda once more interrupted what was meant to be a kiss for antonio lorenzo and me. "the kiss and tell activity will begin now."
and to be continued....
