Sometimes in love there's no simple fix. Sometimes you just have to hang on… and lead with your heart.
- The Wonder Years
Cori stayed at the park for hours, looking into one of the books she'd 'borrowed' from the library. She didn't have a library card, of course, but she'd bring it back when she was done anyways. Just like if she did have a card.
The book was a collection of fairy tales, and the pages were turned to Sleeping Beauty. The picture was smudged just slightly by tinged green fingertips, but Cori could see the important part.
Aurora was asleep on a beautiful bed, and all around her were curtains and flowers and colors. It looked pretty, just like Jade.
People gasped as she kneeled on the ground dropping tiny seeds in the dirt, smiling as blooms rose from the dirt. She made them grow tall and strong, and then she carefully pulled them with love and placed them in a basket. Over and over she did this, until there were so many, her basket was full. After that, she filled her skirt with them, and bundled them up, exposing her pale, scarred legs.
She ran home as fast as she could without dropping her bundles, and she was breathless as she ran to Jade's makeshift room. Looking carefully at the book, she moved the flowers around the room.
The curtains were gold in the book, and she pinned daffodils and daisies everywhere she could reach. The flowers were roses, and those went everywhere...pretty red and pink ones, and she didn't even cry when she cut her fingers. The bed was a deep purple, and she covered Jade's mattress in beautiful violets. It looked just like the book.
Satisfied, she moved over to the wall, looking at the book. She smiled at the picture and slid down to the ground, hugging the pages close to her heart. Now, Jade could see that Sleeping Beauty was her favorite, and she wouldn't be scared. She could feel whole for at least a little while. Cori knew it wouldn't last for long, but she could grow more flowers. She had forever to do it. She would always grow more flowers. Cori was like the flowers. Sometimes she faded and fell, but she grew back because she knew there would be sunshine again. Her family was her sunshine. She knew there would be water to drink. Their love was her water. She wouldn't stay fallen or thirsty. She knew.
Content with her thoughts, Cori curled up on the floor and drifted off to sleep.
