Colonel Cyril Yarnell with Plaque of Model Spitfire Originally uploaded by
Word Freak. I interviewed Colonel Cyril Yarnell last Wednesday in Belleville. He's one of the nicest people I've met. Full of charm and zest for life. I wouldn't have guessed he's 87.
I asked him what Remembrance Day means to him and he gave me this eloquent poem he wrote:
"For some, their ships have returned to safe harbour. For some, their chattering guns have been set aside. For some, their aircraft have returned to base, with their once roaring engines, now silent."

Belleville, Ont. November 8: Colonel Cyril Yarnell, 87, poses with the pilot's escape map, made of the finest silk, that he kept from when he flew in WWII. Col. Yarnell will speak at a Remembrance Day banquet on Sunday night at the Belleville Veterans Council.
