I saw a fork in the road and decided to take it. It's now about to take me back to school. Life's too short not to do something I really want to do.
So I decided to return to school specifically to study photojournalism. The best school for this in Canada is at
Loyalist College in Belleville (about two hours' drive east of Toronto, near Kingston). Here's a more
detailed look at the program.
I don't like the idea of living in a town of about 50,000. But I reckon it's only temporary. I'm among 15 students who got into the fast-track program. My classes start May 7 and last seven weeks. Then I'm off until September 4, when I begin my second year of a two-year program.
So really, it's only 10 months out of my life. It's part of my long-term plan for a career, if there's such a thing anymore. But it feels like a huge move for me.
I've been living in my cozy bachelor pad on Palmerston Blvd in The Annex for five years. And I've lived in Toronto since I was five years old. I'm a big-city boy. Most of my friends and family are in Toronto.
I'll try to take the VIA train back to The Big Smoke on alternating weekends, just to preserve my sanity. I appreciate any couches to crash on when such opportunities arise. Now I've got to finish my packing.
This being my last Monday night in Toronto for a couple of months, I'm hoping to see you at Kilgour's for my Scrabble in the City send-off.
It should be decent patio weather. Last week we had several games going on the patio well into the night. We start at 7PM and go 'til late. Bring your game and a sweater. See you soon.
You may wish to join the Scrabble in the City
Facebook Group in the Toronto Newtork on Facebook to keep up with the club.
The club will go on without me.
heathermccall, who started up the club about four years ago, will be taking over as host(ess)/director until the end of June.
