See you at The Sundowner (or New Year's Scrabble Getaway)

Jan 09, 2006 03:47

I've had a week to ponder the previous weekend's Scrabble tourney getaway in Albany. Here's some of the highlights and lowlights. It's rather detailed, so I've divvied it up into sections. Click on any of the links below to jump to that section of my story.

Good tournament, Roger! Considering where you were seeded, you did well. Sorry to hear you are no longer with Britt.

Hi Roger, I am also sorry about the breakup with Britt, and loneliness does come with it but in time everything will heal.
You are always so pleasant to be with and lots of fun and laughs.
Hope to see you soon again and your site is great Thank you.

you seem to find bingos pretty well but you need to get the jqxz 5s down.. challenging judas and azote probably cost you that game.. and ataxis.. etc. those are very important words and there's only a few hundred of them.

Those were lapses in judgment, for sure. I've seen all those words before. I either get greedy for points and convince myself the phonies are good, or I get scared and challenge words I know are probably good. Occasionally, it works the other way. Many games are won or lost on challenges, for sure. The more words I absorb, the better I'll be at this careful skill.

The new cross-tables are up and I've revisited my previous peak rating of 1416. This time it's going up from here.

Hey, that was SNaRLERS you played against me in Game 2, not SNaRERS...

I saw that you had 6 consonants & a blank as your last rack, and didn't even consider checking to see if you had a bingo. Nice find!

Yeah, that was a typo in my tourney report. SNaRL(E)RS was the play through your E. Nice catch.

Neat account, Roger, and Panties also plays thru all the letters including the vowels in HOLD UP YOUR LUSTY BODY. Man, are we scrabblers a weird bunch or what, ha, ha, Tim

Actuallly, PANTIES plays through all the consonants and vowels in the phrase "Holds your butt up." I forgot about SAPONITE, PETUNIAS and SUPINATE.
