two birds with a borrowed stone

Sam made an offhanded comparison between America’s reaction to the new Batman movie and the country’s aspirations for Obama: the movie and the nominee serve as psychological receptacle’s for re-energized mass-idealism towards ‘fallen’ cultural institutions - Hollywood and mainstream politics.

The remark was casual and casually far-fetched. ‘Dark Knight’ probably isn’t reviving any hopes for Hollywood. And mainstream politics are only as ‘fallen’ as they are corrupt. Still, the remark made for a great opportunity to blog about popular blog topics:

Obama, the eloquent blank slate.
‘The Dark Knight,’ a well-paced crime drama blessed by the specter of Heath Ledger.
People love to love and share ideals.
Mainstream politics and Hollywood intersect when they service our ideals.

Boring blog post.

Ultimately, I’m curious about what my Pro-Obama livejournal friends think of his little shimmy towards the middle. Safe strategy? Wishing you'd saved some of that money you donated?

And I wanted to say that ‘The Dark Knight’ delivers. Even though the last hour is pretty ill-conceived and superfluous. Awesome movie.

And this video somehow belongs here:
