As a teacher, it's amazing how often you not only forget but are reminded that the words of a child 15 years younger than you can still hurt your feelings.
It's worse when it's not the words, but the lack of words.
There is a girl in my class who has been giving me the silent treatment for the last few days. It kind of hurts my feelings because I have no way of knowing where this is coming from or what I might have done in her eyes. What makes it worse is that there are times when her silence is disrespectful and I have to put her name on the board.
Of course, in the end I'm still the adult and if she doesn't like me then "oh well." Still, you'd be amazed at how sad it can make you sometimes.
Nothing is so honest as the opinion of a child.
