don't fade away

Colors start to run from your face
Your eyes flutter so fast
Time is stopped but for your lashes
I’m mesmerized by their quick, tiny beat
You fade
You gray
But your eyes are still alive
And dancing so fast
Beeps and hums and squeaky wheels
They fade
They dim
Your eyes are a world set apart from that
Colors start to run from my face
Black and blue drops fall onto your hands
As I glance at them, clasped tightly in my own
I feel no wetness on my cheeks
That sensory betrayal will not crack through this shield
I will hold you endlessly
You will not fade away
You will never fade away
My eyes dance so fast
Back and forth between yours
The colors start to run and I cannot see
Blurry, your eyelashes are still dancing
Still dancing endlessly as long as I won’t see
Covered in pages of doubt
I try to read the answers your eyes know
I will not wipe away the tears and see that they have stilled
I will not let you fade away
You will never fade away
Please don’t fade away
All the colors
Start to run
