poem

You would have only those
Who would not fall
For you

There is no reason
To sympathize, you say
They are all links
In the chain
(holding her to your headboard)

She tried to break your chain
One way or another
It was broken but
So was she

You left her
Too sweet for sixteen
Too raw for rage
(a fool in your bed)

Trusting your game-
Playing eyes
Will flicker like fire
But they will not burn
You are a beautiful boy
But too cold to burn

So sad that she didn’t know
So sad the trust
That earned her
No more than this

You would have only those
Who would not fall
For you
