So I pulled the project out of the fire.
The project should have been a 10 week build and debug before shipping. It was compressed to six weeks by Chrysler's goof ups with purchasing. The compressed six week build project timeline was reduced to 2 and a half weeks because Chrysler forgot to tell the builder that they had won the contract for a few weeks after they finally approved the project funds.
Eeeep! Call in the contractors! We need help!
Me and a robot engineer named Lee <----------The Contractors
Despite further hurdles thrown in our way we managed to pull this rabbit out of the hat and NOT shut down the Assembly Plant. It took a lot of long days, but so far...we are on schedule. The automation cells are sealing and placing the windshield and backlights on the mini-vans and it all meets spec. The mini-vans are rolling off the line and we have enough breathing room to clean up the non-critical details.
So...I look pretty good to the automation company at this moment it time. So good that they want me to stay on till Christmas for project support to keep Chrysler happy.
I don't wanna be in St Louis till then...but they agreed to get me home two weeks before impchild's due date and allow me to stay home until after our child is born. They gave me a decent expense and per diem package. The extended stay will keep the families health insurance current and allow enough overtime to put a few dollars in the bank and pay off a few lingering bills. (I really need to take care of the IRS. Don't ask.)
It looks like I might be able to work out an eight days in St Louis and four days home schedule.
Ah well. It is pays money. Hopefully I can see some friends on my days back in Michigan.
