St Louis blues

Not gonna complain. I asked for this and I got it. I have worked everyday since I posted last time except for this last Sunday. The overtime was needed more than I can say. Paying the utility bills before they threaten shutoff will be a pleasant change.

So I am mulling life over my fifth beer and missing my wife. I am missing hearing her make little surprised noises when the baby kicks. I am missing her glow when she touches her stomach and gets that little grin on her face. I am missing her chuckling over her birthing books when she runs across an amusing passage. I am just plain missing my wife.

Me <--- sap when drinking. (OK...sap at select other times as well.)

I am at the Chrysler St Louis Assembly plant working with a small crew to retrofit a robotic glass cell. It installs the windshield and backlight (auto speak for rear window) in the Town and Country minivan.

The auto industry sure hasn't changed while I've been away. Just as frantic, confused and disorganized as when I left it. But at least I am an old enough hand at this not to stress about it like I used to. The insanity and freaked out management is a constant side effect of the industry...not a personal responsibility of mine.

Really miss my 420. (sigh) But as long as I am going to be subjected to random piss tests everytime I get off a plane and enter a auto plant...I will just have to deal. I can't afford to let my wife and child down. Someday I will enjoy the pleasure of my green friend again. But for now, I shall bid the Green Man's mistress a good night. She will just have to take a back seat to my other loves.

Beer helps. Absolut helps as well.

The airline lost my luggage. And the hotel lost my reservation. And the shuttle bus at the airport was so late I almost missed my flight. Oh yeah, oh yeah...the life of the road warrior is at times a frustrating one.

But I am standing a little taller these days. And I no longer look at myself in the mirror and wonder where my balls went to.

Maybe the economy is improving. Since I updated my resume a month ago on Monster, I have had calls about work from North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Wisconsin and Ohio. I am hoping for a spot in Clinton Township that I talked about with a recruiter today...but I will keep contracting until the right one hits.

I miss everyone already and I will apologize for being WAY behind in reading my LJ friend's page. Don't think I don't care. But the ten to fourteen hour days don't allow nearly as much time for online interaction as I would like.

I am off to finish this beer and sleep as much as I can before the morrow. I hope to see ya'll soon.
