However, "just" is really really reallly hard sometimes. ("just takes serious commitment")
I hear ya.
I suggest you actually go talk to a doctor/surgical center that performs the surgeries (there are a few different kinds) and see what they have to say. I did that a year ago or so, and learned that there was a mandatory 6-month regimen to follow pre-surgery that they make EVERYONE do. It involved lots of meetings, exercise, classes, semi-fasting (drinking shakes only for weeks and weeks), therapy, tests, EKG and body mass tests, etc. It made me realize how extreme surgery is, and that it's not to be entered into lightly at all.
If you don't correct some habits before surgery, you can undo ALL the progress you make. People CAN cheat their way around gastric bypass and remain overweight.
That being said, I have at least 3 friends who have done it, and one is running marathons now (she's 40), one is a healthy 170ish weight, and very happy, and the other was verrry overweight (maybe 400lbs?) and has after about a few months lost over 15% of her body weight.
Check it out, but keep yourself checked in with reality. good luck! p.s. I did the 6 month regimen, then opted out of the surgery because I realized that I actually had more self control than I thought, and because I like exercise pretty well, and that helps a lot.
