Two long days in a row. But satisfyingly long, you know? Talked with the raddest girl in the world twice today, and managed to get school supplies, get a lab partner, spend five hours in the clay studio making molds (I made five of them), and even discovered yet another allergy- plaster! (applaud) Yup. So no plaster room for me for a while- as long as I can find somebody to pour molds for me, it should be fine. And everybody's super nice there. I just wish clay wasn't so messy on my hands.
When I got home, I got in the shower (I was feeling extra grubby). As I was doing so, I started to feel queasy when I thought of the last time I worked with clay- the summer of '93, while still in high school at the local arts center. (Local arts centers offer really fun classes, and you should enroll your kids in them if you're too scared to enroll yourself. And often times they have artwork to look at that is interesting, and relevant to your community. So maybe you should check it out and support your local arts center!) Anyway, so I'm in this ceramics class at the arts center, and learning how to use the wheel. It also happened to be the same summer that I tried to kill myself- and I made the mistake of telling my friend about it the next day in the little courtyard during our break. The smell of bread baking in the air... what an intense day. July 29th. It's like the polar opposite of that now. Hopefully one of the molds I made will work. I was really afraid to start today, and hadn't talked to the teacher or other students all that much, but after being in the studio for so long, it got easier to talk to everybody. So I feel like 900 times better for having tried.
I also made some progress on documenting the BFA process that I'm in the middle of (it's hard to document when I have so many formats I'm dealing with, but starting it on the computer seems logical if I have to type a paper anyway... So maybe this is part of a book.) I'll be even more on path tomorrow after I get feedback from Leon about what I've documented so far, as well as the images and music I submitted to him. I also submitted some VNV Nation to him, as I'm currently on a music-thrusting binge now.
Oh, and in other exciting news, our VIS/CON billboard went up yesterday. More on that later... Friend calling. Must talk on phone.
