Today, we evicted a lady who hasn't paid her rent in two months. In the two months of non-payment, we received every excuse short of "my dog ate it" as to why she could not pay. Monday, the constable was scheduled to lock her out. She gave yet another excuse & said she would have the rent Tuesday. We bought it (because we are stupid.) Tuesday comes: no rent. Wednesday comes: no rent. On Thursday I processed the lockout again for Friday. Friday comes: constable locks her out. She leaves after a little prodding from the constable and all is calm...for 6 hours. She then comes back, smelling quite ripe (she is a large woman) and said she could have her stuff out today. We agree because we want her gone. 11pm comes around, I walked to the apartment to find she convinced a nice resident to help her. She informs me that the large, smelly woman went to drop the first load off & would be back. I said she had to be out by midnight. Midnight comes around, I go back. Two random drunks/leeches/assholes are helping her move her stuff out. I say it's time to lock the door. One of the men says, "I can have this stuff out of here in 10 minutes." I say, "No, she's has since 3." The second one says, "If you were a god-fearing man you would let her." I laugh and say, "Maybe she should have asked god to help her with her rent." He then goes on to say that I will be judged in the kingdom of heaven by our lord almighty when I die. I tell him that the lord almighty isn't real, but me locking the door is. He then calls the police & they tell her she has to leave. All is calm.
Why bring religion into the situation? Did they think someone would comedown from the sky with $900 & save her apartment? Did they think that by saying I was not god-fearing that I would let her stay? I deal with reality & logic. Fact: You don't pay your rent, you get kicked out. Fact: If you are a large person and you are moving furniture, you will smell. Fact: jesus will NOT help you pay your rent.
