The hotel room is haunted. A creaking noise that sounds suspiciously like footsteps comes from the corner of the room, and Jaehwan pulls his blanket tighter around himself, instantly regretting his horror movie marathon with Hakyeon earlier. The noise happens again, and yeah, the hotel room is definitely haunted. It’s either that, or someone is lurking in the corner, waiting until he falls asleep to strike.
He rolls over, his back to the offending corner, and squeezes his eyes shut. After a moment or two, he opens his eyes and glances over at Taekwoon. He looks fast asleep and completely undisturbed by the fact that there is clearly an ax murderer in their room. Granted, Taekwoon’s default facial setting is “pokerface.” He could be just as freaked out right now as Jaehwan, right?
A soft snore comes from Taekwoon’s bed, and Jaehwan frowns. There goes that idea - he is, unsurprisingly, the only one worried. He shuts his eyes again, intent on actually falling asleep this time, because if Taekwoon can do it, then so can he. Except another loud creak sounds from the corner of the room, and holy shit, how is he supposed to fall asleep like this?
Jaehwan glances at Taekwoon, then behind himself, at the darkened corner of the room. If their room was indeed haunted, then his best bet for survival would be to be near Taekwoon. He’s ten times scarier than a pissed off spirit or hockey-mask wearing serial killer. No one would want to mess with him.
Pushing his covers off himself, he pads across the room to Taekwoon. “Hyung?” he whispers, standing next to the bed.
Taekwoon stirs, and after a moment, his eyes flutter open. He peers up at Jaehwan, a quizzical expression on his face.
Jaehwan shifts his weight from foot to foot. “Can I sleep in your bed tonight?”
At that, Leo’s eyes promptly shut.
“Please,” Jaehwan says, and it comes out sounding embarrassingly close to a whine. “We were watching scary movies on the flight here, and now I keep hearing noises, and I’m freaking myself out, and-”
“Ken, you’re twenty,” he replies back, his voice groggy and eyes still shut.
Jaehwan rolls his eyes. “Haven’t we already established that I don’t act my age most of the time?"
Leo doesn’t reply. Heartbroken, Jaehwan thinks about returning to his own bed, where, no doubt, he’s about to be murdered. He’s going to spend his final moments in an uncomfortable Japanese hotel bed. Pity. From the corner of his eye, though, he sees the smallest bit of movement from Taekwoon, who lifts up the blanket in a silent invitation. Jaehwan grins.
He crawls into bed and pulls the comforter down around them. “Thanks hyung,” he says quietly. Leaning over slightly, he presses a small kiss to the other’s neck. Taekwoon stiffens. Jaehwan pulls back, hoping that Leo isn’t too offended by the gesture. He jokes around with the other guys like this all the time, after all. (And okay, maybe he hadn’t fully meant it as a joke this time. Maybe it had a lot less to do with annoying Leo and a lot more to do with trying to show just how much he appreciates him, but still. There’s no way Leo could possibly know that.)
Wide-eyed, Taekwoon opens his mouth like he’s going to say something, and oh god, here it comes. He’s going to kick Jaehwan out and send him back to his own bed, and ultimately, his brutal death.
“Jaehwan?” says Taekwoon, his voice as gentle as always.
“Yeah?” he breathes. Taekwoon’s bed is so warm and cozy, and he’s really, really not looking forward to having to leave it. He scoots a little closer to Leo, so he can soak up as much of his body heat as possible before he has to return to his own cold bed.
“Go to sleep.” He blinks once, twice, three times before shutting his eyes. For a moment, Jaehwan stares at the older boy, a smile on his face. Moonlight shines into the room from the door to the balcony. It covers half of Taekwoon’s face and highlights the smooth contours of his cheekbones. Leo looks so peaceful, so innocent, and Jaehwan finds himself wishing he had his phone so he could remember this moment forever. Smiling to himself, he rolls over, facing the balcony, and finally shuts his eyes.
Behind him Leo shifts, and suddenly there’s an arm sprawled across his chest. Jaehwan leans backwards into Taekwoon, and by the lack of tensing, he can tell that the older boy doesn’t mind. Another creak comes from the corner of the room, but he hardly notices it now. He can feel Taekwoon’s breath on the back of his neck, and really, ax murderers are the last thing on his mind.
In the morning, he really should thank Hakyeon for their movie marathon. He’ll leave out the part about the cuddling though, to save himself from the wrath of Leo. Pissing him off isn’t the best thing to do if he wants this to be more than a one time thing. Taekwoon’s arm tightens around him, and he falls asleep thinking that this is nice. Really nice.
