ETA: Duh, I meant to post this to the austincomm!
Earlier this week I found what appears to be a handspun, handknit sweater at the Savers thrift at North Loop and Burnet. Because Savers does, as far as I can tell, rely on local donations I assume this sweater came from an Austin-area closet or cedar chest.
The main body of the sweater is chocolate brown wool, with colorwork on the yoke (shoulders) in lighter shades of brown and of beige, with a bit of white thrown in. The ribbings and neckband appear to be of spun dog fur, perhaps Golden Retriever. The white yarn may also be dog (could even be Persian or Himalayan cat I suppose!); it looks like angora bunny but I am allergic to bunny fuzz and it has not yet made my eyes blow up like evil balloons.
The washed and blocked size of this sweater is 21" across the chest - a good size for an average man or for a large woman. It was filthy when I found it at the thrift and I suspect it lived with a smoker.
I would show you a photo but my phonecam is doing a crappy job and my good digital cam is elsewhere today.
So Austinites, does this sound like your sweater, or a sweater you made for someone else? If you know who made it PLEASE let me know!
