First 2009 Review
Went to see Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans today. It was absolutely brilliant. The way that the moviemakers kept so much of the "canon" from the first movie together really impressed me. The only bit i saw that didn't match was that Sonya was blonde in the first movie and dark-haired in this one. I thought the dark-haired fit much better with the movie theme.
The death bits varied just enough to reinforce the "memory" aspects of the first movie's death scene. Of course Lucien would make her death more painful and of course he would remember her screaming because that's what he would be doing in his head.
I would've liked to see him mourn but, in a way, he spends the next thousand years or whatever never mourning her and, instead, continuing a war based on vengeance.
I thought it was well acted and well scripted. I was engaged in the entire movie from start to finish.
The sex scenes (and they were pretty in your face, including Lucien hanging over a cliff with Sonya riding him and him having his 'o' face on) were made awkward by the five year olds behind me who asked "mummy, why is she naked on him?" Touching and poignant. I enjoyed the heartbreak of Sonya's death and the way that they humanized Viktor. I felt for Viktor even if I thought he chose the douchebag path. 11 out of 10.
Also - I'm sort of ashamed that I lol'd at a preview for Fired Up. It's a cheerleader movie, for fuck's sake. But the preview had the one dude fucking up the friend's love!rival's name and calling him Doctor Dick multiple times. Also - they practiced cheering "al dente". LOLOLOLOL I will definitely be putting this in my blockbuster queue.
New to me trailer for Watchmen. OMG THE FLAIL! Also - I sort of popped in and saw the Wolverine trailer on the big screen. a;dlfjas;ldfj MORE FLAIL!
