Monday evening was the 'Aha'Ahina, the traditional luau at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, the oldest resort on Waikiki. A five-course meal and show that told the history of the island. At first we thought it was a bit over-priced, but it was amazing and worth every penny. Plus, the snooty people who'd paid an extra $50 for "priority seating" were but 3 feet in front of us on the next table and half of them had their backs to the stage. Bonus! Matt seemed to have taken quite an interest in the fishing nets. Funny, he'd never shown much of an interest in fishing before...
The MC was working the room and asked Matt what brought him to Hawaii. He told him that "I'm here with my partner celebrating our 10th anniversary!" We ran into another gay couple after the evening who said that they didn't think that they would have had the nerve. They had been together 18 years.
After the show, we wandered the popular, Rodeo Drive-style shopping row just like all the other tourists and wound up on the beach. Love is in the air...and the water.
