i didn't sleep too long on Saturday morning since i'm not used to it. So i got up and went to the Minnesota State Fair. i started at the Dairy Barn for mozzarella sticks and twisty cones. There is a woman who has been sculpting the Dairy Queens in butter for nearly fifty years. Good work, but don't they all look the same? "Buttered clones". No matter...as long as they keep that ice cream moving from cow to cone, i'm fine. i watched some of the cow judging, too. Interesting.
At the cow judging, sticks are involved. The cows are not on them. Yet.
There is a lot of pimpin' and primpin' in the animal competitions.
But take this horse. "All these ribbons and where did it get me?"
This is the Grand Champion Meat Goat. Are they going to eat her? And if she doesn't taste good, do the take the medal back? Of course, i made my way home to the Swine Barn.
What's a state fair without food on a stick? Pickles and Cheese.
Root beer floats - not deep-fried and not on a stick. The roast corn was also not officially on a stick, but close enough. "Roastin' Shuckin' Eatin'" That reminds me, Journey is playing the state fair circuit this year. The deep-fried cheesecake was also on a stick but that didn't deter me. i stuck a fork in it and it was done. Improvise!
i ended up with a Pronto Pup, a "banquet on a stick" and a state fair tradition. i didn't find this year's sensation - Big Fat Bacon - but apparently it was for the best since i was told there was an hour wait. Maybe next time. By then, i was full and tired so back to the park 'n' ride and home for a nap.
