Minor League

We had a work outting to see the St. Paul Saints play the Pensecola Penguins. i'd never been to a minor league game before, but if you've seen the film "Major League", this was what it was based on. They take tailgating serious here and the parking lot was packed with grills and coolers. We had a catered affair set up, but since you can never get consultants out of the office at a reasonable hour (and the fact that most of these guys and gals don't know their way around town) we only had about 15 minutes to gobble down brats and veggie burgers (yeah, i know...) before the game. i got their first because i was the only one that had actually been over to St Paul before and knew my way around.

i have no idea why they have a pig as a mascot, but there are pig icons all over the stadium. And pigs are fun. For every home run, this guy collects a dollar from the fans to donate to the cure for Retinitis Pigmentosa. Tonight he got $237!

There were crazy contests and promotions between innings. Drag queens dragged the field. It was "Heads Off To Arkansas" night and so the there were headless bears, a severed head batting contest and other stuff that ragged on Arkansas. What they had against Bill Clinton's home is beyond me, but it was fun and silly. And lots of northern beef.

The park is small, so every seat is a good one. And no fewer than 10 freight trains passed by the outfield. Plus, the fire and police department is just over the right field fence. So you feel safe.

A good time, lots of beer and we won!
