If you read my
Previous Post, you'll know that the letter of the day seems to be 'P': pee, Prince Alberts, padlocks, planes, projects, passes, pigs... Well, how prophetic:
As you may have read, one of the reasons i took this project-from-hell is to try and get an early promotion. Our company only promotes once a year and to be placed on the list, us analysts have to have 22 months with the firm come promotion time (1 October). This October i will only have 20 months...two shy. The exception to this is if the project you're on puts your name in the ring and shows that you are performing at the next level and can work consistantly there.
i just got this email in from my (very woofy) career counselor:I just wanted to let you know that the project did submit a business case to have you added to the list of candidates for promotion in September. We will not know for a week or so if they accepted the business case and add you to the list, but I wanted you to know that the first step was done.
OK, so this is just a preliminary step and doesn't mean i'm anywhere NEAR getting this promotion. But the mere fact that they DID put in the business case (and the senior manager who had to do it is swamped with work...way more than i do) shows that they are stand up folks. Yeah, this project is still messed up, but they're right there in the shit with me. So even if i don't get it, they did right by me...and that goes a long way in my book. i guess i better get back to work and earn it, eh?
EDIT: Just got this email in from my HR rep:You are receiving this email to confirm that you are flagged, whether by early nomination or automatic qualification, for consideration for promotion as we enter the Annual Process season. You do not need to respond to this unless you feel you have received this notice in error.
i WOULD say that it's an honor just to be nominated, but this ain't the Oscars...woofer wanna WIN!!! Keep your fingers (or appendages that begin with 'P') firmly x'd. i'll let you know come this fall.
