Yesterday was the state primary here in Missouri. Everything went the way i had hoped for the most part. The race for Attorney General was awfully close and the asshole former-Republican had .03 percent over the next closest candidate...something like 800 or so votes out of over 300,000+.
i sincerely hope they do a recount. The guy behind me in the yellow t-shirt is Mike Colonna who is running for - and won - the democratic nomination for State Rep. i thanked him personally for the letter he sent out stating his support for GLBT issues. If they don't hear us appreciate them, they won't think it matters and man, it DOES matter. Especially in a place like Missouri where it's hard to get a word in edgewise. You know, i hear so many folks just ready to throw in the towel. It's ugly, it's dirty, it's disgusting...they just don't want any part of it. And that's true, it is a nasty process. But it always has been. They may have pictured it as this honorable, dignified process, but the smear has always been around. It's just louder now that it can come from so many directions. But you can't give up. If you do, that means the other guys win. What people don't realize is that conservatives like things the way they are. That's why it is so easy for the Republicans to keep their people in check. They respect authority and do what they're told and they have swallowed what they've been told to for the last 8 years. Liberals, on the other hand, are free thinkers and most of them think wildly different thoughts, so it's hard to keep everyone on the same sheet of paper. But now is not the time for radical thoughts. If we give up just because we didn't get our way, we'll just hand the whole thing back over to the Republicans and things will just keep going into the shitcan. Do you really want that? Everyone bitches that the Congress didn't do anything with their 2006 "Mandate for Change". But a one-person majority ain't shit against President McVeto. Obama and whatever other Democrat may not be your ideal choice, but guess what? You give up and the sheep win. And you may as well start going "baaaaa" since you helped.
