Pigging Out!

Yesterday, we met up with Robert & Steve in downtown St Louis for the Rib America fest. This was my first time down there and i usually don't like these kinda shindigs since it's always hot and crowded and i HATE crowds.
Fortunately, ol' Ma Nature helped us out and dumped a MASSIVE rainstorm on our asses about 1 or so and we got there about 2 so it was not only cooled off, but the crowds had been dispersed. SCORE!
Apparently this is kind of a roving carnival and they hold these things all across the country. There were about six different groups making ribs and instead of trying to eat a rack each, we bought 1/3-racks which were usually four bones, so each of us could try one. By the time we got to the sixth one, we were all full and had gotten to try all of them. You wouldn't think that there could be that much of a difference, but there is. Jesus won our little committee's voting. The Big Boned BBQ Co. is some kinda religious thing since it had little bible quotes written on the inside of the tent, but no matter: they were some damned good ribs! And of course, the corn - roasted in the husk, dipped in melted butter and lightly salted - was simply orgasmic (corn being my all-time favorite vegetable). That being said, it was a pricey affair. It was five bucks just to get in and then with their coupon=cash scheme it worked out to about $3 a bone!! The entertainment was a "lost bands of the '80s" lineup and we timed it wrong because we got stuck with the Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band who really sucked and it was like he was playing the same blues number over and over and mumbling the whole thing. So it was kinda fun, but i doubt we'll do it again. We have some damned good ribs of our own here in St Louis, so we don't need no preeetenshus furinners cumin' in here and tryin' to tell us how to barbeque! LOL!!
