"Iron Butt" to the West Coast

i made it out to SFO yesterday. Since a window seat was available, i took that instead of going for the 4-credit upgrade. i ate before we got on-board and had some chex-mix, so i was good and fortunately, didn't have to get up during the 4+ hour flight. The downside to this was that i had an aching tailbone by the time we got there. No matter. my seat companions were smaller than usual, but my shoulder was aching from being shoved up against the fuselage. Now i remember why i need aisle seats - which weren't available. The window shade wouldn't slide up either. Oh, bother.
Got my bags, got my car (Chevy Malibu) and slogged through the traffic to the east side of the Bay Bridge to check into the hotel. After doing some work, i headed back towards the city, but when i was coming down the hill into Oakland, the electric info sign said "WB 80 lanes to Bay Bridge blocked. Use alternate bridges." Well, that would just add an hour and i had no distinct plans, so i gave it a miss. i kinda went on autopilot and
drove south on the 880 towards San Leandro...Dadbears place. i found it automatically. He lived in a ground floor apartment of a four-place and there is a large Victorian house sitting in the front. It was eerily quiet. There were fewer plants than He had. There was a Saturn Vue on the side parking spot which was like He had. Did His surviving partner keep it? i had thought that the family was taking it. Hell, i'd lost touch with him so i'm not even sure he was still living here since he'd always wanted to live closer in the city and i was not about to go knocking unannounced. No matter. Dad doesn't live here anymore. Time to move on. Since my evening was suddenly free, i remembered the Bayfair Cinemas down the road a couple of miles were we'd gone to the movies, so i went and saw "Iron Man". FUN! FUN! FUN! i'm not even much of a fanboy, but i really enjoyed it. Robert Downey, Jr., was just right in his role and was believeable as the arms dealer who has a change of heart, Jeff Bridges was great as always, but Gwenneth Paltrow was about the same as she was in "Sky Captain and the World Of Tomorrow". Terrence Howard has an awfully wimpy voice for his military commander role. Fortunately, i have a tendency to stay through the credits and use that time and music to digest the film and i was rewarded with a special treat. WOOF! Now for work.
