Bringing Down The House

When i got home on Monday evening from my (and many of your) wild weekend in Dallas, Matt and i were catching up. When we got to the "Coming Attractions" portion of our conversation, he told me that he had signed us up for some work on Saturday. Needless to say, i gave him a glance with one eyebrow arched in my usual "you-did-WHAT?" manner. Our buddies Art (woofy daddy bartender @ JJ's) and Roger (big woofy aeronautical engineer with a predilliction for kilts) were getting a new kitchen and their new custom cabinets were on their way. One problem...their old kitchen cabinets and appliances were still in the kitchen. Hmmm. They were going to give them to Mike, the secretary of the Bears, for when he got around to redoing his own kitchen since they were really good cabinets. Apparently, the "pros" had said that they would demo the kitchen, but were going to charge them somewhere along the lines of $10,000! No, i didn't fat-finger an extra zero in there, ten large! Fuck that! Besides, we needed the exercise. Kinda.

It was right about this time that the crowbar rolled off the counter and landed on my big toe. Needless to say, i threw the drill i was using to unscrew the cabinets across the room while screaming the foulest obscenities at the top of my lungs and doing a one-footed dance. i don't know if it's broken and it hasn't turned colors, but it still hurts like a mother-fucker!

Even though i wore the suspenders, i still wound up with "plumber's butt" and, no, i didn't pull my shirt up.

Built in the '20s (i think) the tile was plastered over concrete that was layered on chicken wire secured to the studs. Fortunately, we got it down in one big chunk (practically). The downside was that i had to break it up and haul it all out to the dumpster. i filled an entire dumpster with concrete, plaster and tile. i don't know how many trips i had to make, but it was alot. That could explain my soreness today.
