At everyone's urging (thank you all), i called the doctor's office and "Junior" had an opening at 3:15. i have seen him a couple of times. He's a young doctor and a bit over-enthusiastic whereas my regular doc is a bit more laidback. You know the type.
So i get there and he checks me out. i mean, it really was just there behind my jaw, though the ache had extended up towards my ear. But i had no other symptoms...my sinuses, ears, throat, etc. were all fine. So he figured a quick round of antibiotics would knock that infection out of that lymph node. Normally i would be leary of overusing them, but it's been a long time since i last took them, so i'll do it. As for the cause, a good bet would be last week when i got a kernel of popcorn stuck in behind that wisdom tooth there and it probably got a little infected by the time i got it out. So no major worry. But wait, that's not all! The last time i was there he did a whole bunch of blood work on me so he's happy to have someone to scoldadvise. Actually, everything was really good: HIV, cholestorol, BP, you name it. i could raise my good cholestorol, but i'm not gonna start eating fish. He said that my blood sugar was a little higher than he'd like to see it, but he was taking a non-fasting number and comparing it to the fasting numbers. So he wanted to do it again. OK, whatever. Then i remembered that i'd eaten a big handful of LifeSavers Gummies about an hour before i came down. He still wanted to do it. The guy who did the test said that the number was perfect, but Junior still wanted me to watch it. OK, whatev'. He also wanted to do an EKG which took all of a minute - took longer to wire me up - and those numbers were also fabo'groovy. i'm as healthy as an ox. A fat ox, perhaps, but healthy nonetheless. i even lost some weight since last time and i have no idea how that happened. He also wanted to do a prostate exam so i was like, ok, sure, fine, but i'm not the cleanest kid in town. No matter. So he did his poke and gave me a box of Kleenex to cleanup and when i turned around and pulled up my pants, he was holding up a test strip and said "if there's blood in the stool, this turns blue" and it was a bright blue. i said, "well, i coulda told you that...i got used pretty heavily this weekend." "So when were you going to mention it?" i went on to explain that i knew there was blood and i knew the cause and it was not an issue and he said was looking at my prostate not my stool. Still, he wanted to do a colonoscopy and that's where i had to reign Junior in. We agreed that he could poke me in another 6 months and i'd give it a rest for a week or so before hand.
So i stopped by Walgreens and got my drugs and picked up dinner stuff and came home. When i got back i checked my email. Earlier in the day, i had sent an email to the manager for the up-coming in-town project and he said i'd have to interview for the client, but that was supposed to have been late last week or earlier this week and i still hadn't heard anything. But when i got home, i was greeted with the following email:"The client has reviewed your resume and would like you to start on 4/1 (no formal interview required). In the next two weeks I will work out all of the details and be in contact with you."
WHOOPEE!!! That means i'll be working in town at least through the end of the year!! So no more lonely airport/lonely hotel pictures, sorry, guys. Instead i'll be waking up next to Matthew every morning. i don't know what i'll take pictures of now. No matter. Matthew is happy and so am i. And if i get a call on the application i put in to the in-town company to work there full time, i'll be able to jump on that too. Now i just have to hold off the wolves at my company for a month. On top of that, Matthew made me a homemade apple pie!! He forgot the thickeners, so it was a bit soupy, but i think that just made it yummier!! Nuthin' says "I love my woofer" like a homemade apple pie. Well, nothing that can be discussed here, anyway. *wink*
In the meantime, it's Mister Missouri Leather weekend and i'm getting myself ready for the fun. If you're in STL, come on down and buy me a shot! If not, stay tuned for leathery pics.
