On The 10th Day Of Fetishistic Designer Swag Xmas
Matt and i didn't spend a whole lot on each other for xmas. We work out ways to get the things we need throughout the year so we just buy a couple of small things for the big day. On the lead up to xmas, i got an email from AMEX. OK, i got a lot of emails from AMEX, along with a boatload of other merchants encouraging me to spend money. One of them mentioned buying things with Rewards Points. Well, as it turns out, the Big Ass Consulting Company (heretofore known as the BACC) uses the AMEX as it's corporate card. As an incentive for us to pay our bills on time, if we do for a year, they will pay the points enrollment fee. To that end, i had amassed nearly a quarter-million points over the course of the past three years. You know that snowboard dude on the commercials "Yo, it's snowing in Norway, i'm paying with points!"? Yeah, that annoying fuck. Well, you can get more than just air travel with your points...you can get fetishistic designer swag with your points, too. One of these emails mentioned getting iPods. Bored, i clicked on the shiny picture and up popped a bunch of Apple stuff. "ooooh, an iPhone." Have i ever mentioned how disappointed i am/was in my present phone, a Samsung Sync? Well, i am. Now, i have always had a problem with "hoarding". i will hang onto stuff and not use it because...if i use it, i won't have it anymore. Is that fucked up or what? Yeah, well, i can't afford therapy. Besides, it's not my fault...both of my parents are packrats. So, i ordered an iPhone. Well, Matt decided he wanted to get something out of this too, so i ordered him a Dyson since both of our vacuums suck, or, rather, DON'T suck. And they both showed up on the same day. So we wound up getting $800 worth of designer fetish swag for nothing. OK so i had to work my ass off and spend a good 30% or more of the last few years on the road, but still. i could have come away with nothing.
Speaking of which, i'm back on the road this morning. Off to Minneapolis...see you guys there.
Is there anyone who'd like a Samsung Sync? i'd rather it go to someone who couldn't afford it otherwise. i'll even throw in the Monkeyrola bluetooth headset.
