Take A Seat For Art

Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein to see the Le Corbusier exhibit. Everyone (well, all the design bears) know him from his chaise lounge chair, but there was so much more to him than that and i learned a lot in a short period of time. The museum is on Charles Eames Strasse, if that tells you anything, on the grounds of the Vitra Furniture Co. who makes lots of designer chairs which is why they underwrite the museum. The building was built by npdxbear's boss, Frank Gehry and was his first one built in Europe. The gift shop sells miniature designer chairs, but at prices equalling the real thing (an Eames chair, 6" long, $280). The giant sculpture, representing tools that would be used to make chairs, looks very Claes Oldenberg, but i don't know if he did it or not.

...there are even designer seats at the bus stop...
