The Last Leg Is Often The Longest

We finally boarded about 11:30 and taxied out to the edge of the runway...and waited. Seems there were at least 20 other flights trying to unass the A/O at the same time and a little more patience would be required...

i was able to snooze a little while we were waiting, but sleep wasn't coming easy. So i read a little (an issue of "Entertainment Weekly" is usually just right to get me through one of these flights). We had wheels-up at 1:04am but since we had to take the northern departure route we didn't land until 2:01am. Of course, who the hell lands in St. Louis after midnight??? So even though we were there, we had to wait until they woke the guy up to move the jetway out to the plane. i was tempted to see how much fun those inflatable slides were.

The one redeeming thing about showing up so late is that you can admire the architecture without all those travelers getting in the way. i always think of poohbearjim and how much he loves airports too and send warm thoughts his way.

We finally got out and, of course, there were no taxis at the taxi stand. One showed up, then another...and finally a small parade of cabs came around the corner. i had to give my young middle-eastern driver directions, but that wasn't a problem and at 3:04am, i snuggled into Matthew's armpit and curled up with his arms around me. Home.

Thanks for all of you for your thoughts and warm wishes on my little adventure.
