Goodbye...
This is it... Closing weekend for Evil Squirrel Comics...
It's starting to hit me.
For those in the area, 60% off clearance sale for what remains. Shaun is taking the store in a new direction after this, mail-order and personal delivery to those in the area. I'm hopeful and excited for him, but... After Sunday, the physical location at 6928 N Glenwood will be no more. And that's a lot for me to take in right now. I've spent countless nights there working evenings and weekends... I've hosted countless events there, I've missed others because I was there... I've forced my friends to work, I've spent evenings hanging out with those I care about.
Although I stepped back from the day to day operations a year and a half ago now... It consumed so much of my life for these last six years that... I find it all just too much to take in. Clicking on that little "Store" tag below chronicles the entire rise and fall of, not just a store but an institution. We CHANGED this neighborhood. We made it safer, we brought nightlife and retail businesses to a dead zone, we ushered in a string of gay owned/operated/patronized businesses... And we built a community of comic book lovers and fans... We watched their lives change whilst they watched ours... It is... Awe Inspiring. And I find that for now at least... Words fail me. I just hope to touch upon this again soon here.
