Such helpful kids...

drew2u was passing through town last night on his way home and stopped in for a cawfee break...  I drove over to Baskin Robbins to get ice cream for me and iced-coffee-mocha-latte-chino something for him and when we came back out to a group of teenagers, two of whom were leaning up against the back of my car... I was annoyed, but figured they were just hanging out. Then I saw that one of them was opening my trunk!

They quickly explained that they'd "noticed it was open and were just trying to close it", while I took a quick head-count and realized that making a scene would only get me jumped and calling the cops would probably result in the same (or at least the group would be gone by the time they arrived). Instead I just voiced my displeasure, got in their faces (I'm not a small guy), slammed my trunk closed and drove off, after which I cursed myself for not keeping a more level head because... HOW THE HECK DID THEY DO THAT?!?

I'm reminded of the Mazda 3, (which requires that you only hit the passenger door to unlock the car) and am curious if the Ford Fusion / Mercury Milan / Lincoln MKZ has a similar weak-point having to do with the trunk?  I know it wasn't open when I was driving, because the message center has both visual and audible alarms letting you know about such things.  And when I got out, I hit the lock button twice which arms the alarm and would audibly let me know if anything wasn't secure...

And so I ask you, dear users of Google and other such search-engines...  Can you find ANY such mention of a security flaw in my car which may lead to the trunk being a vulnerable point of entry?!?

EDIT:  I believe I have a solid lead and will be giving it a shot this evening when I get home...  Let's see if I can break into my own car!

car, ramblings
