But She's Got the Wicked Curve Ball!!!

Who's Next?[Side Reel, FreeWebs]It's kind of sad how one of the first things I hear about Eclipse is a casting change. Though I wasn't a Rachelle Lefevre fan, I'm just not keen on casting changes in films (unless they die!) and was quite excited to see Lefevre get a bigger role in Eclipse.

And so this morning when I woke up to tweets like #BringBackRachelle, I actually wasn't sure what was happening. That was until I read about the casting change to Bryce Dallas Howard, then Rachelle's statement and of course Summit's response to Rachelle. And then I really didn't know what to think.

Obviously, I'm saddened by this news. Not that I have anything against Bryce Dallas Howard -- I also feel bad for her, cause she's in a very very awkward position. She's going to have to win over fans and just really prove herself to everyone, when she really didn't have anything to do with Rachelle's being replaced. And what about that precious cast camaraderie/dynamic that I absolutely love. How is this going to work out now? I know they're all actors and they can work it out, but it's still really bumming me out.

The wrath of a fan scorned isn't something I wish on anyone and so the big bad Summit better prepare themselves for a hellstorm that can already be seen with the tweets and petitions going around now. Obviously, Summit isn't going to back down. Sure, the fans are angry, but would they really boycott Eclipse over this? I don't think so.

They're too emotionally invested in the film to back out now. And this really makes me sad because Summit could have taken into consideration how fans feel about this. I know they're very 'supportive' of the fans, but they also have to think that without the 'passionate' fans, they wouldn't be raking it in.

Of course, there's the question of who's to blame anyway. Was it Rachelle for taking another movie that overlapped (albeit only for 10 days, that Summit claims as super important) or is it Summit who just couldn't accommodate her schedule for those 10 days? I don't know but something tells me if either Rob or Kristen (sure they're 'more important' but still) or even one of the Cullens weren't available, they would make concessions for it. I don't know.

In the end, it's still a business and I don't know how reneged on who's contract but it just really makes me sad, especially since we'll be seeing more of her in New Moon, only to have a change three movies in. I just need to blame someone so no thanks Summit for cockblocking your own franchise. Whew, that felt good to let out.

Thank god for Chris Weitz. Time.com interviewed him and with quotes like "I think I'm pretty fem. I have a lot of estrogen," he always knows how to make me happy.
