Am leaving on Saturday for mission trip to Louisiana with the Senior high youth group from church as a chaperone. Should be a real experience and I'm looking forward to it but also a little nervous. Is a chance for tremendous growth both on a personal and spiritual level.
Assume that we'll be doing some sort of home repair which I basically have no skills at so could be a real learning experience as well and hope I don't make a fool of myself. Something tells me that I will.
And the driving, there are 8 youth going and 4 adults. We're taking two vans and splitting the driving between the 4 of us. I don't have a whole lot of long distance driving experience and none with a van, so hoping that goes well. Not to mention a terrible sense of direction. We're coming straight thru on the way back 16 hours and will probably be really tired, so I'll learn quickly with experience.
Anyway, the main reason I'm writing is because of a connection that has just been formed.
A couple weeks ago I came across a woman on My Space that I graduated high school with who now resides in Michigan, is a writer and works as an editor for a newspaper.
We have sense exchanged a few emails, discussed our writing and my need to get on track.
While she was still in this area she did some work with the local papers and I had mentioned about the mission trip in an email, and she said that its a perfect opportunity for me to write. That I should submit an article to the local paper about it and she set me up with the contact information.
I emailed the paper today with the suggestion and he promptly replied with acceptance, said to send him an article and pictures when we get back.
So hopefully I'll soon have a published article and I owe all thanks to my new friend who is already moving me in the right direction.
