The game that ate my brain

Yet again, I'm so far behind the bandwagon that I have to squint to see the cloud of dust disappearing over the horizon, but... I've really, really been enjoying Fallen London (I'd link to it, but if you're interested I'd much rather send you an in-story invite that'll benefit both of us! *grin*).

It's a text-based browser game set in late-Victorian London, but in this world the city has been sucked deep underground by the mysterious Bazaar -- which may be from outer space, or may be supernatural, or may be something completely different. At any rate, London is now existing by candlelight, alongside intelligent rats, the Traitor Empress, Rubbery Men, the Melancholy Curate & his Enigmatic Sister, the inscrutable Masters of the Bazaar themselves, and various nightmarish horrors (although I should note the game manages to maintain a rather nice balance of creepy and humorous). You get to pick and choose which plotlines you're interested in; the game itself is free, but you can buy extra goodies if so inclined. You can also sign up via Facebook or Twitter to gain access to social actions -- it helps significantly, but isn't necessary.

My current squee-ness is partly because I've unlocked the University, which is chock-full of engaging storylets involving research in the library, trying to join a rowdy social club, assessing the cricket team candidates, participating in wine tastings with the faculty of snooty Summerset College and heated debates with the students of liberal Benthic College, and loads of other delicious bits of flavor text. I am enjoying this *SO MUCH*. Yes, that's right, I'm spending my free time pretending to prepare lectures for an imaginary university. I suspect in many ways this is significantly less frustrating than ladybird97's and orichalcum's lives. :D

On my other new front of squee-dom, I'm steadily rising through the ranks at the Shuttered Palace and have just received a commission to paint the royal children. I iz famous bohemian artsy person, yo.

... ooh, I wonder if anyone's made icons! Must go look.

And did I mention I'd be delighted to send you an in-game link if you're interested in playing too? :D Also, let me know if you've tried it before and had gameplay issues -- I have a few tips and tricks that might be of use.
