Did I mention ARRRRRRR?

We had a spectacular, blowout New Year's ... uh... extended holiday!

First, I have to apologize. I sent out an invitation in the beginning of December via LJ post; it was f-locked, but only f-locked -- not filtered in any other way. Apparently many people on my f-list didn't see it then and still can't see it now, and I didn't find that out until the night before the party. Argh! If you didn't get the invitation, I'm *truly* sorry -- I meant to invite my whole f-list, and am extremely annoyed to discover that it didn't work. I hate Evite, so I'll figure something else out for next time (and there will be a next time! see below).

Anyway, after our dinner/Scrabble actual New Year's Eve, we had a Pirate's New Year's Eve party on Jan. 2 -- because pirates celebrate the New Year any time they damn well please, arrrrrr! The Ladies' Champion and I dressed up (he even put on an earring!), as did several other guests. Some guests claimed to be ninjas, and some cheerfully admitted to being total landlubbers.

We had decorations: skull-and-crossbones banners, "beware of pirates" signs, chests full of chocolate gold coins, little sword toothpicks for the food, etc. Somebody put the "Davey Jones' Locker" sign on the bathroom door (hee!). There was a "pin the pirate on the treasure map" game for the kids.

We did not have music, which was fine because there were a zillion people plus kids in the house and any additional noise probably would have sent people screaming out into the night. We *did* have plenty of rum and about eighteen desserts too many, and are still trying to figure out what to do with ALL THESE BAKED GOODS. Yikes. There were many yummy contributions from guests, but jamused's callaloo soup deserves special mention... and of course loosecanon and redshinma made Bacon O'Clock happen!

Also, we watched a really, really hysterically bad but thematically appropriate movie, which I will not link to here. I believe many of you are already familiar with it. :)

Some folks stayed over, which was nice both because we had help eating leftovers in the morning and because the sprout was beyond thrilled when she woke up that there was still a BOY! In the house! To chase her around in circles!

We had a fantastic time, and are absolutely going to do it again. Luau is sounding very tempting...

arrrrrrrrrr, party, holiday
