A few weeks in to our own adventure, my college roommate called me and said, as if reading my mind, "It does get easier," and I almost cried with relief. And she was right, so I pass on her calming words: it does get easier. So if you are still in the Climbing the Avalanche zone, take heart.
And yeah, that breastfeeding thing - just because it's natural doesn't mean it's necessarily easy! I was sooooooo happy to have a lactation consultant to help us out. I also kept the numbers of seven or eight local La Leche League leaders posted by the phone, and called often during the first weeks - they were so, so kind. (I once even called a LLL leader in California because I needed help late at night, and they were still up on the other coast!) That group can be a really great resource, if you're so inclined.
A husband and father of our acquaintance warned Doug, "Day 3 is the Day of Weeping," and so when it came, right on schedule, he could take it in stride. The LC sounds great - but then, he always sounds great.
