Hello dear children!
today is Iceland's national holiday! Oh yes 63 years of national pride. Obsessing over keeping our language...our heritage..to such an idiotic extent that Iceland even made a pact with the American Base, not to allow any african americans on it. Yes...if a child was to be born with a bleering american accent AND a darker skin complexion...now THAT would be a shocker.
But the country...now that was something everyone seemed to agree with. Building roads should always be something constructive, not hurting anyone, anything. Even one road accomodates for the elves who live there. They asked us not to blow up the stone which they once inhabited and asked us to preserve our country.

We come from traditions and breaking away from external power. When Icelanders were ruled by the Danes, lived in mud huts, bathed twice a year, they read, they played chess, they exercised their thoughts. They respected their surroundings.
What has this country become? A huge gap between the rich and the poor. Coca Cola being drank by the tons, as if in a desperate attempt to somehow keep up with the big guys. The Americans. Hamburgers, video rentals (all american films, and if they're foreign..the titles are still in English.)
Words slip from peoples mouths, english words in heavy icelandic accents.
But people change, fit themselves into new molds, follow new traditions, admire new fashions, people, countries. Yet one thing remains...which we cannot retrace our footsteps on.
Nature.
Gaia gave us something we are all disrespecting. Gaia gave Icelanders a character building country. Volcanoes! Geysers! Insane colours with insane grass! hot springs, mountains, lava, moss, even trees !(I'm going to be made fun of).
When I was little I visited a waterfall. I was told that some Norwegian or Dane had tried to buy it. I remember how I thought how ridiculous it was. We laughed. Someone BUYing a WATERFALL? !
We are selling our souls to disgusting corporations. to do what? to take our country? let it perish?

Iceland is an exemplery country. or at least it pretends to be. But it loses respect in my eyes, every day..when its people forget to give back what they have been given.
I want to go to Seyðisfjörður in July, to give my share of opinion on the matter of ALCOA, ALKAN, and Karahnjúkar. But no one I know is going. I feel like a bit of an idiot letting this stop me. I guess I should just go. But I'm not very familiar with actions, and I don´t know how to put up a tent. I feel very stupid, to say the least. But I feel like a little lost kid.
