The Explorer, the Fool, and the Doctor

"The Guide says there is an art to flying", said Ford, "or rather a knack.
The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss."
- Douglas AdamsWow it has been a while. Comparatively.

I went to Nag's Head with my family which was odd and fun! I've never been on a vacation with just my parents before; usually at least my brother if not hundreds of cousins are there to keep me company.

We spend a lot of time on the beach reading and meditating. We met pelicans and jellyfish, and baby jellies and watched large crabs dig their holes. One day I found a large broken conch shell in the shape of a cutlass hilt, complete with knuckleguard! I did some yoga and read A LOT.

We went to the Elizabethan Gardens, which were beautiful! We visited the Cape Hatteras light house and fought a fear of heights and wasps to get to the top. We waited for 2 1/2 hours in the car to get onto the ferry to get there to the Ocrakoke light house, and by the time we got there we didn't care anymore, so we went to a bookstore and then went back.

We were supposed to go on the Downeast Rover (replication of a 19th century sailing vessel) the next day, but it turns out we accidentally made reservations for a Dolphin Watch boat. It was supposed to rain so the Downeast Rover had canceled their trip, but the dolphin watch boat was still going out. We went out and saw dolphins and ended up being caught out in a huge thunderstorm in the middle of the water in a little metal boat. The rain lashed at us and lighting was striking the water on all sides. We were a good half an hour away from shore even with the engine gunned. The Captain detoured through a marshland and we got back safe, if soaked. It was awesome and throughly terrifying!

The next day I went hang gliding and it was incredibly hot. I crashed a few times but I had some good flights. Which, by the way, is number 3 checked off my 30x30 list. After that, I was able to sneak on the Downeast Rover as a "crewmate-in-training" and it was a really peaceful trip. We relied almost completely on wind power and we got to watch the sunset over the water.

The next day, my parents drove me to Ocean City for a weekend of girlyness and debauchery for Caitlin's bachelorette party. We got to the house, got settled and then dashed out to the boardwalk, where we rode bumper cars, I watched Caitlin and Alison ride the Zipper, infernal machine, and we stuffed ourselves with greasy boardwalk food. AND we got oldtimey photos! THEN, we went out to the karaoke bar and everyone sang until 2am. The next day we woke up to a pancake breakfast, went to the beach, then to lunch/dinner and then to the outlets in Rehobeth for 5 hours. Bought lots of good stuff, but I got shopping fatigue after a while. We drove back, singing Glee all the way, grabbed junk food and Smirnoff ice and settled down for a girly sleepover moving watching night. The next morning, we drove back home.

That Tuesday we had our first read for Twelfth Night rehearsal. We have a great cast and it looks like it will be an exciting production! And I am playing Feste which will be a huge and exciting challenge. I've been talking everyone's ear off about how Feste is like Doctor Who.

That Thursday, I had a softball game in sweltering heat and the mad blood was stirring. Everyone was cranky and lots of runners ran into basemen, including myself. One of my teammates got a sprained ankle b/c of an on-base collision. So we went to a teammates rooftop and had a cookout to just chill and calm down.

Saturday Caitlin and I went to the pool, and then Lee and I went to see Courage! at Dog and Pony, which was an amazing production! I still hate Brecht, but the show was excellently done.

Monday, CSmith and I finished up the 10th Doctor. It was really sad and we cried a lot, and I know in my heart that David Tennant will always be my Doctor. I've been watching Matt Smith since then, and it just seems so Disney compared to the earlier Whos. There is no depth to the darker sides. Other people disagree with me, but I just can't see it. Its getting better though, with the Weeping Angels and River Song, and so I have now come to accept Matt Smith as Doctor, but I seriously doubt he will replace Tennant in my affections.

Upcoming:
Tonight - Purse repair shop, Softball game, attempting to get better sleep
Tomorrow - Dinner with Ed who is visiting
Sunday/Monday - 4th of July/ Grandma's Birthday!
