If anyone has a foodie in their lives that they are looking to get a gift for this Solstice season, then I cannot more highly recommend a Silpat baking mat.
If you don't know what a Silpat is, it is a specific brand of silicon baking mat. In many ways, it is similar to other silicon baking mats, except that it is of much higher quality. You will pay 3-4 times as much for one as you might for a generic silicon mat, however the Silpat is worth it. It has much higher manufacturing standards, it is tougher, and nothing will stick to it. I was reminded of this fact this evening, as I was cleaning caramelized pizza sauce off of our Silpat, and it came clean. Any other silicon mat would get blackened and lose effectiveness.
Seriously, Silpat. You will be thanked.
