Caer's Wake

Just a quick copy-and-paste:

An Irish Wake

We are going to have a remembrance and celebration of Caer, instead of a service or eulogy. We are going to have an Irish wake for an Irish (mostly) girl. I told you all that she was a faery child. I read these lines of Yeats to her in her sickbed:

Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

She is with them, I think, at least for an out-of-life while, where no time interrupts play with its watches and frightened rabbits. She is teaching them how to sing dirty songs with angelic voices, to turn t’ai ch’i into chai tea, and to dance with unicorns to Flemish music. She is teaching them love, for she was love as refined as any faery dust or sugar on earth.

So, we won’t wake her, but we’ll send her off with echoes of our love in her ears. This is not to be a classic Irish wake in which the poteen flows like a mountain stream, although a drop of the creathur won’t be forbidden. It will be gentle. It will be held at Darleen Graham’s house, where Caer was married last June. It won’t be outdoors, for the weather has changed. In short it will be an Irish waking of an Irish faery.

We are holding it (and we know some will not be able to come, but this is the best we can do) on Saturday, November 27, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Darleen’s house is at 435 Kearney St. in Denver. You can Mapquest or Google it. Easiest way is 6th Ave. east of Colo. Blvd. to Krameria, south to an almost immediate stop sign. Turn right and the street becomes Kearney. House is on the right.

We have some requests:

·Spend a while to share your favorite stories, pictures, music with those who knew and loved her.

·If you’d like bring some food and/or drink-it’s kind of potlucky.

·Casual clothing.

·Think about making a donation in Caer's name to an environmental organization, food bank, animal organization, or Children's Hope (a local non-profit the family supports).

·Consider planting something somewhere--Caer loved gardens, flowers, fruit, vegetables.

·Do something silly or outrageous that you've always wanted to do, but haven't yet. Caer was adventurous--unleash your hidden adventurous side in her honor (legally, of course-or mostly).

·We’d like to talk to the women in Tae Kwon Do. Caer was writing a book about martial arts, self-defense and women, especially how pursuing martial arts impacts women’s physiology. Nothing would please us more to see this work get completed and published. We’ll need to try to find out how far she had come in her writing and research.

Come, join us, bring your love, your humor, and your songs of life, for she can never be dead who was so alive, and her love ripples through even eternity like the last bars of a faery’s song…come away….

Bill

This will be an open-house type event, from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm. Open to all who love her.

I will also add this aside: in case anyone is considering it, Nao has specifically requested that NO gifts/flowers or anything of the like be sent to his home. Thanks! -K
