The Bands
Howie Day - This was my first listen the day of the show. I liked
him, but I would definately need to give him some more play time to
figure out what I really think of him.
The Stills - Really cool Canadian band. Rad guitar hooks, and
fairly emo lyrics. Same as Howie Day, seeing them live was my
first listen so it's hard to really have a feel for them
Junior Senior - One of the coolest performers ever. Okay so it's
these two guys from Denmark who sing like disco/pop/dance music.
That sounds totally icky, but they are the most fun ever. Their
set was just like one giant, sweaty dance party, which I"m all
about. It rocked. The guy from the B-52's sang with them
for a bit too, and that was rad. I think you can check them out
at www.juniorsenior.com. Rad
Death Cab for Cutie - So this was my 3rd dcfc concert experience and
also my least favorite. Not to say that I'm growing out of them,
because it's quite the contrary. I think they just knew that
in festival setting like this they had a huge audience of
first-timers so their set was very much so geared towards promoting
their most recent album, which again, I love but I just missed the old
stuff. Also they hated the heat and so they were in a bad
mood. But I did snap some quality pictures of Ben Gibbard and
Chris Walla, so that was awesome!
The Pixies - Wow, can these older guys rock, let me tell ya! They
haven't played together in 10 years, so the fact that I got to see them
was totally incredible. They played such a packed set, and it was so
much fun. The Pixies were completely awesome. The bassist
is female and she has the most mesmorizing voice ever...I was totally
mesmorized each time she sang.
Radiohead - The reason I went. The reason I paid nearly $100 for
the festival. The reason I have a renewed love for music.
Honestly, they are the most amazing musicans ever. Even if you
weren't to like their sound, there is absolutely no denying their
musical prowess. They dominate. Thom Yorke has the most
pure voice ever, he totally blew me away. Such an awesome
presence...I got some rad pictures of him. We were, no joke, 50
feet from the stage which is amazing considering that it was a sold out
show of 65,000! They played everything I had hoped to hear.
I want to see them everytime they tour in California, because they are
seriously that good. I can't say enough about them...I'm
borderline obsessed.
Kraftwerk - I only watched them for like 20 minutes but they were
pretty cool. Basically 4 German guys each at their own keyboard
playing these crazy trance type songs. Pretty crazy, pretty cool.
There are so many funny stories to tell, but this one obviously has to go in here.
So Coachella Music Festival is named after the valley in the Mojave
Desert that the show is held in. So it's got to be like 105
degrees on Saturday and I passed out within the first hour of being
there. It was so funny. I just remember telling Jason that
I felt wierd and next thing I knew I was on my back with a circle of
people all around me, just staring down at me. It must have been
dehydration or something because I drank water and then I was fine for
the rest of the day, but it was pretty weird.
Best Quotes of the Weekend:
Heather just before getting lost right before the Pixies and Radiohead performed " I think I'm going to get a pretzel'
Jason to the kids screaming in front of our car, ' Hey could you move
your conversation like 30 feet from here? There are four people
trying to sleep here!"
Nick " We're either almost to the concert or we've still got a ways to go...."
Jason: Does everyone have their tickets
Me: Yeah let me just call Heidi and ask her a question about what's on
my desk ( totally left my ticket at home...luckily we had only driven
down to AG so far!)
