[Shirou is sitting in the Violet City Pokémon Center, looking out the window at the sky, absentmindedly turning his brand new Featherbadge over and over in his fingers. This was how many days now of the exact same weather? It was starting to worry him ( Read more... )

[Rin now has her badge as well, luckily. The stale air was starting to make her want to choke, honestly.]

Could be ghosts again, but I'm not sure whether changing the weather is actually within their power.

...The only other thing I could think of would be something with more power over weather than most Pokemon have. Or the power of some kind of god.

You mean like whatever it was that brought us here?

I don't know what brought us here in the first place. I've heard people say all different things about it.

...I still sort of think you might've had something to do with it, though.

Obviously, either way, something's about to happen. It's just a matter of what this is a sign of, and I'm not so sure it's just going to be a storm.

Everything here seems to be foreshadowed by the weather, yeah. Except when the Unown went crazy.

I don't think it's the same as last time, either. Drifblim and Rotom are both just as nervous as we are.

That wasn't a naturally-occurring event, though, I'm pretty sure. They don't just swarm like that for no reason.

...Not that this is natural, either, but the Unown probably can't control the weather like that. Rubin seems anxious, too, and I'm sure ghosts are more attuned to this sort of thing than we are.

Isn't that just something animals in general can do? They instinctively abandon a place that's about to get hit by bad weather or some other force of nature, right?

Right. Ghosts can probably sense the same thing. It seems being a spirit doesn't matter when it comes to detecting things people can't pick up on.

Well, we already knew that spirits could pick up on things that we humans can't.

[It's pretty clear he's thinking back to the Holy Grail War and Servants' ability to sense each other.]

...Naturally. [Facepalm. That must've sounded dumb.]

They must be the spirits of dead Pokemon. That's the obvious conclusion. But then, they can lay eggs like other Pokemon can, too, as far as I know. And if Pokemon don't die in battle, there's only old age and accidental deaths...

The anime was really weird about that. They said that Gastly were spirits of dead Pokémon, but like you said, they can lay eggs and breed.

...But I've long since given up on trying to understand Pokémon biology.

Well, it's a kids' video game. Making sense probably wasn't the first thing they had in mind when they designed it.

...Then again, neither was sucking real people into the game, I hope.

No way. I don't think even magic could do that.

Then what did? We're here, after all.

I wish I knew. Then maybe we could get out of here.

I mean, this isn't a bad place when things aren't messing up. It's actually nice sometimes. But that doesn't mean I want to spend the rest of my life here.

Oh, you can bet there's absolutely no way I'm spending the rest of my life here.

[Rin slides a glance at her bag where her Poke Balls are kept for just a moment, but her expression doesn't waver. She sounds pretty confident in her knowledge that it won't last forever, at least.]

I'll be glad when it's all over, and we can get back to more important things.
