So, my boss just called me into her office, and apparently, I’m getting a raise and a bonus, but I’ve only been at this job since October, so it totally doesn’t affect my life at all. With taxes, I’m sure I won’t even notice. But it was still good to hear her say that I'm doing a good job.
Speaking of money, someone suggested last night that we start a movement to encourage people to donate their tax refunds to charity. Bush is giving most people $600, right? I'm in publishing, so that actually kind of makes a difference to me, but, for a lot of people, it doesn't. Plus, it's extra money that you weren't expecting to get, so it could be a good opportunity to make a charitable donation -- at least of some if it. Imagine how much of a difference all those $600 rebates would make if they were directed toward social services, etc? Obviously, I can't start this movement myself, but I was thinking of contacting MoveOn and other organizations like that to see if they could help out. People could choose among a bunch of different charities. Ideas for charities I had so far are:
The Democratic National Committee
Disabled American Veterans
Planned Parenthood
UNICEF
Other ideas?
Also, we have this program at work where we can apply to get money (up to $500) for a charity of our choice, so I applied for my company to send money to this organization/shelter for poor and homeless women in Boston (Rosie's Place). I hope I get it!
