Yo LJ
I'm here two days in a row!!!

I really have nothing to add to yesterday's very deep and insightful journal entry. Right now I'm listening to Muse and watching the Red Sox game....
Tomorrow I pretty much will just go to ensembles. That's about it.

Maybe I'll use my LJ as a semi-movie/music critic of recent things I have come across. I think Laura has inspired me with her incredible music journalism - however, my tiny little entries will not be nearly as well thought-out or researched. Who knows...

I'll start with 2 movies I saw recently: District 9 and Inglorious Basterds

Inglorious Basterds
I read a critic that said "If you have disliked Tarantino's other movies, you're probably not going to enjoy this one either".... That's probably pretty accurate. I, however, love QT's movies and style, and this one was pretty darn good as well. I will say though, that the violence is not nearly as "stylized" as in other movies of his. Instead, it's just realistic violence that made me look away a couple of times - so if that stuff really bothers you, you may want to skip it (or just go with a buddy) :)

On the other hand, I thought this movie was QT's best attempt at showing real people vs. super heroes or charicatures of past movie roles. In fact I thought this was one of the best movies I've seen depicting some of the hardships of WWII.

O well, enough on that one.

District 9
First off - District 9 is FRIKIN AWESOME. You know how with a lot of movies the trailer can be better than the movie? This is the total opposite - the trailer doesn't even really show you what the movie is about.

Without spoiling it too much - the basic plot is that an alien ship arrives over Johannesburg and they create these little camps/shacks for the aliens to live in. The movie is really a commentary on apartheid and guantanamo bay - only with aliens and kickass special effects. And - if you're looking for another reason to go see it - Peter Jackson produced it.

Go see it.
And, if you're like - dude I have $9, I'm only going to see 1 of these - pick District 9 (though the other one is a worthy choice, this one is the better movie)

I think that's enough for today
