We had the first of the severe Autumn gales in England last night; these are nothing like the hurricanes and typhoons endured elsewhere in the world but enough to bring down trees and to sweep unwary people into the sea. The wind and rain and stormy conditions were worst in coastal areas, which has the effect of driving the seabirds inland. This was the scene to greet me (in the very middle of England) as I cycled to work past a school playing field:
Hundreds of seagulls were wheeling in the air or bobbing up and down on the grass. If they are hoping to find fish, they will be disappointed! There is only one picture as it was raining hard - definitely better weather for fish than for cyclists.
