I was away for work in the mid-East of England this week. The weather has been wet, grey, windy, cold so, on my return to Oxford, I thought I'd take a few more shots of the colourful celebration Cake Shop with its funky UK cakes. This time, there's a St George and the dragon cake (and the dragon is even spitting cake fire!) that I particularly liked.
The shop is inside Oxford's historic Covered Market which opened in 1774. Here is one of the cake shop's windows:
Inevitably, there are temptations for Oxford's many tourists, such as these minicakes (the picture on the cakes shows the gothic Oxford skyline, including, in the middle, the roof of the round Radcliffe Camera - I'm telling you this for a reason!):
The reason? Oh yes -
As with the rest of the city, the shop is cranking up the action for our Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations:
The shop makes "ordinary" birthday cakes as well and I guess this one is a copy of a birthday cake made for a lucky George:
The "normal" range covers ancient Egyptian mummies, boots, sports, jungles, books, laptops, garden sheds and a whole heap more! If you're interested, the shop website (no, I don't work for them!) has photos of the whole range here:
