As the UK heads towards its Easter holiday celebration this weekend, the traditional period of fasting (usefully co-inciding with that time of the year when, in years gone by, food stocks would have run very low!) which we call Lent comes to an end.
As the feasting season is in sight, a friend made me a Simnel cake (a fruit cake for Easter) and I treated myself to some new cocktail ingredients: hazelnut liqueur, chocolate liqueur, apricot brandy and a Mexican tequila.
Here's a close-up of those bottles.
As mixers, I'm using coconut juice or mango/pineapple pressed fruit juice. So, for example, I tried mixing tequila (for strength), apricot brandy (because it's new!), a little cassis (for added fruit), pomegranate/grenadine cordial (for fragrance) and the mango.pineapple smoothie. The effect is quite like a fruit punch but with more - um punch!
Here's a close up of the cake.
As I don't have an oven, anything baked comes with the label "made in Heaven"!
Talking of which, this guy:
Gackt starred in a theatre show last year playing a samurai called nemuri kyoshiro. The DVD of this show, which I ordered in October 2011, has at last reached the UK: after getting stuck in a customs shed in Coventry, the disc is now FINALLY sitting in a post office in a town near where I live, waiting for a signature which it will get on Saturday. FINALLY! Finally I get to see Gackt wreaking sword vengeance on 30 green ninjas! Happy me :=)
Oh, I have two fine bottles of sake put by for watching the Gackt DVD, by the way. No cocktails required!
