Gorgeous and so peaceful. I always enjoy the pictures from your bike ride to work. It must be a very calming start to the day to be able to stop and commune with nature a bit.
Hello! No wonder it's peaceful - nobody else is stupid enough to stop in the icy weather and take their gloves off to use a camera! The geese are in the water because the river is warmer than the land. Unless the reflection of the moon has tempted them in. I was not communing so much as shivering!
I enjoy the changing smell of the early morning along this stretch of my journey. Alas - there is no "smell" function on LJ for me to add this! Even so, it is surprising how quick the change in the light can be: the last (fiery red) photo was taken only about 4 minutes before the "with geese" picture on the same stretch but see how much lighter the water and grass has become in that short time. The moment of magic lasts only for about a minute.
Hello! I'm pleased that you enjoyed the scene. I keep looking for small gems of beauty and interest in the long, tide of dark mud which is the English winter!
Of course, the real thing (sunrise) was more intense but I thought that the camera (for a simple point-and-press) did a reasonable job. I hope for better once I've got to grips with the full panoply of manual settings.
I am sooo jealous you even get to see the sunrise! Sometimes I find myself awake around that time, but it's too build up around my house and tree....y to be able to see anything good ;~; Might have to camp out on the heatherfields of the New Forest one day...
I love the colours. And the frosty ground.... and the moorhens! Or I guess they're moorhens.
I usually leave the house about 7.15 so, at this time of year, it's dark when I start the journey and just getting light when I arrive at the office. Yesterday, I timed it to hit the bridge over the river just as the sun was clawing its way over the hedge. This section is a flood plain so not built on; the beginning and last half of the ride are very urban and contain the most evil hill for miles around!
I'm glad you enjoyed sharing the view with me. Y, camping out in the New Forest sounds great - do it! (but perhaps wait till it's a bit warmer).
The birds are greylag geese (anser anser). Here's a close-up so that you can check ;=)
Wow, they look really small XDD Every time I've ever come across those geese, they've been some of the worst tempered ones! Never go the Flamingo Park on the Isle of Wight. The geese there will chase you like rabid dogs. It's terrifying.

This scenery is the rural and central stretch of my journey to work, the pastoral filling in a sandwich of urban sprawl and heavy traffic!
Thanks for your visit here.

There aren't really words to describe that primeval lifting which happens at the fulcrum of night turning into day.
Thanks for taking a look.
